Instrument Making:

Because of his father's occupation, he involved in wooden arts since his childhood. His first experience of making instrument was a self-experience of making a Guitar-like instrument. Later on, he did lots of trial and error in making other instruments like Santour without any pattern.

Following these interests leads him to Setar Instrument, first by repairing a Setar and then by making his first Setar based on Javad Chaychi's Setar Making book.

Knowing Mr. Salim Sokouti(a Setar Player in Tehran and Mastero Hamid Sokoutie's sibling) encourage him to continue his experiences. In 2002, he met Mr. Morteza Pourebrahim(A setar maker in Guilan) who made a deep effect in design and technical aspects of Mahmud's works(So that, yet Mahmoud believes that development in Instrument industry in North of Iran should thanks Mr. Pourebrahim's efforts).

In 2002, meeting Hamid Sokouti gave him a significant cognition of vocal quality of Setar and a deep knowledge in different style of Setar making. Sokoutie's guides introduced two valuable method in Setar making, Mehdi Kamalian's style and Mahmoud Hashemi's style, in which he has been making his instruments.

In 2003, he knew Mr. Masoud Shaari(a great master of playing Iranian Music) by person whose kind and continues helps made a deep change in his works in terms of detailed vocal quality of instrument required by professional players.
